Bryn Davidson, principal of Lanefab, describes the rainwater harvesting systems of one of their many Vancouver laneway houses.
Describe how the rainwater harvesting and reuse system works?
For the W.20th house we installed a 700 gallon in-ground rainwater tank which captures water from the lane house roof (with a leaf filter and an overflow to the storm system).
There is a small pump in the tank which then feeds the water to the irrigation system, and inside to the ‘purple pipe’ system which feeds the toilet and laundry.
Because it’s a new system we we provided two hookups at the toilet and laundry, one for potable city water and one for the purple pipe rainwater system.
