Located in the eco-friendly Québec City neighbourhood of Estimauville, the new offices of STGM were designed with the environmentally responsible and innovative spirit of the firm. Formally longitudinal with a north-south primary axis and oriented to the sun, this 2-storey, 1,000 sq-ft office is exceptionally comfortable with a low ecological footprint.

.

The exterior cladding of high-performance composite cement siding, combined with eastern cedar, gives the ensemble an appearance that is both simple and dynamic.

 .

From the initial sketches, the designers aimed for a high level of sustainable construction, aiming for LEED platinum certification, with comfort, simplicity and consistency as guiding principles.

 .

STGM gave themselves two large, open plan workshops, some closed offices, conference rooms, meeting spaces and indoor and outdoor relaxation areas. Through efficient water management, reused wood salvaged from vernacular houses and old furniture, the office uses as little new resources as possible.

 .

A minimalist approach guided the structural concept toward a lightweight composition of engineered wood and prefabricated floor trusses to support the 14 meter spans, thus creating an open plan work environment. The wooden roof trusses are left exposed as a design element and reveal the structure on the second level.

 .

Almost all spaces are flooded with natural light from many windows and skylights, changing the ambiance as the day passes.
